What is Cinnamon?

Currently, with the recent epidemic of Type II Diabetes (estimates of 20 Million in the USA alone with Type II Diabetes), Cinnamon is a natural and effective approach to maintaining healthy blood glucose levels.

What does Cinnamon do?

Preliminary research suggests that Cinnamon Extract can help maintain normal serum glucose (blood sugar) levels as well as normal triglyceride, and cholesterol levels. Studies have shown that 1 gram (1,000 mgs) per day of Cinnamon Extract may significantly help people improve their ability to respond to insulin thus normalizing their blood sugar levels. Test results have shown that Cinnamon Extract stimulates insulin receptors and can also inhibit an enzyme that inactivates them thus significantly increasing the cell's ability to use glucose. This activity is supported by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Cinnamon Extract has also been well-researched for its effects on blood platelets. Platelets are constituents of blood that are meant to clump together under emergency circumstances as a way to stop bleeding. Under normal circumstances that can also make blood flow inadequate if the platelets clump together excessively. The cinnamaldehyde in Cinnamon Extract helps to support normal clumping of blood platelets.

Cinnamon Extract's essential oils also qualify it as an "anti-microbial" food. Cinnamon Extract has been studied for its ability to help stop the growth of bacteria as well as fungi including the commonly problematic yeast Candida. In laboratory tests, growth of yeasts that were resistant to the commonly used anti-fungal medication fluconazole were often (though not always) stopped by Cinnamon Extract according to the International Journal of Food Microbiology.
