Docosahexaenoic acid, better known simply as DHA, is an omega-3 essential fatty acid.

DHA is one of the primary building blocks of the brain and the eyes. It ensures optimal composition of cells in the brain, retina, heart and parts of the nervous system. These cells transport electrical currents that send messages throughout the body. In the fetus and young infants, DHA is essential for proper growth and development of the brain, nervous system and the retina of the eye.
